Piso Retiro

The building dates from the 1880s and stands on a quiet street between Retiro Park and the Paseo del Prado, with a cream stucco facade and wrought-iron balconies at each floor. The apartment is on the third floor, reached by a lift, and its windows look over plane trees and the ruled cornices of the neighbouring buildings. The park is three minutes away on foot, and the museum quarter a little further.

Inside, the plan keeps its original proportions: high ceilings, tall doors and parquet floors laid in a herringbone pattern. A long sitting room runs along the facade, with a linen sofa and a pair of walnut armchairs. The kitchen is at the back, white and compact, with a table for four. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms sit off the central corridor, one of them facing a quiet courtyard.
