Casa del Miradero

The house stands at the end of a lane on the outer edge of Toledo, where the Tagus turns below the city. A low wall borders the terrace, and beyond it the gorge drops to the river, with the Alcázar and the cathedral visible across the bend. The stone of the house is the colour of the hillside, and cypresses grow along the path.

Inside, the plan is simple: a sitting room with a fireplace and a window over the gorge, a dining room with a long table, and a kitchen at the back. The walls are white above a dado of tiles, and the floors are terracotta. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs, one of them opening onto a small balcony. The terrace is used from morning until the light goes.
